Best Place to Buy a Keg in Bucks County

Not every place that sells kegs is the same. Selection matters — if a shop carries three domestics and calls it a keg list, that’s not much help when you’re planning around a crowd that actually has opinions about what they drink. Equipment availability matters too. And so does having a keg that’s been kept cold, not one that needs 24 hours to come down to temp before your party starts.

If you’re looking for the best place to buy a keg in Bucks County, here’s what’s worth knowing.

Best Place to Buy a Keg in Bucks County

Bound Beverages in Warrington is the go-to for kegs in the area — we stock 1/6, 1/4, and 1/2 barrel sizes across a wide range of domestic, craft, and imported beers, and our kegs are kept cold and ready to go.

Our current list includes everything from Bud Light, Yuengling, Coors Light, and Miller Lite to craft options like Dogfish Head, Cigar City, Sierra Nevada, Allagash, Cape May, Lawson’s, Other Half and Guinness— among many others.

On the more premium end, we regularly carry limited and specialty kegs including Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, Tired Hands Hop Hands, Imprint hazy DIPAs, and selections from Neshaminy Creek, Levante, and Deschutes. Imported options include Heineken, Stella Artois, Modelo, Peroni, Paulaner Oktoberfest, Saison Dupont, La Chouffe, Moosehead, Labatt Blue, and more.

We have an up-to-date beer keg list organized by size so you can see exactly what’s available before you call or come in.

Are Beer Kegs Worth Buying?

For the right occasion, absolutely. A keg eliminates the logistics of buying and cooling individual cans or bottles, keeps beer consistently cold through a single ice source, and removes the constant trip back to the cooler that breaks up every conversation at a party.

Beyond convenience, there’s a presentation factor that matters more than people admit. A tapped keg signals that someone put thought into the party. It’s a centerpiece. Guests pour their own, refills are immediate, and you’re not picking up 200 cans at the end of the night.

Where kegs make less sense: small gatherings where you won’t come close to finishing the volume, or situations where guests have very different taste preferences and one style of beer won’t cover the room. In those cases, a mix of six-packs or a couple of sixtels is often the more practical move.

Is It Cheaper to Buy a Keg or Cans of Beer?

For domestic beer, a keg almost always works out cheaper per serving. A half barrel contains the equivalent of nearly seven cases of beer. When you compare the per-ounce cost of a keg against buying the same volume in cans or bottles, the keg typically wins — sometimes by a significant margin.

The math shifts for craft and imported beer, where keg prices are higher and the per-serving savings shrink. Some specialty kegs cost more per serving than buying the same beer in cans. That’s a reasonable trade-off for draft quality and convenience, but it’s worth knowing before you assume a keg is always the economical choice.

The best way to compare: check our keg list for current pricing, then do the math against what that same beer would cost you in cases. For most domestics and session craft beers, the keg wins. For limited releases and high-end imports, it’s closer to even — or sometimes a slight premium for the draft experience.

How Far in Advance Should You Order a Keg?

For standard domestics — Yuengling, Bud Light, Coors Light, Miller Lite, Modelo — a day or two of notice is usually fine, and walk-ins are often possible. We keep these in stock consistently.

For craft, specialty, or limited beers, the window is tighter. Popular craft kegs move fast, and specific brands or sizes can sell out between restocks. If you’re planning around a particular beer — especially anything from the craft or import section of the list — call a week ahead and we’ll confirm availability or let you know when the next shipment is expected.

The deposit and rental equipment (tap and tub) should be reserved at the same time. Taps and tubs can run short during busy weekends and around holidays, so booking early is the safer move.

What Do You Need to Tap a Keg?

Three things: a coupler (the tap that connects to the keg), a CO2 system or hand pump to push the beer, and a way to keep the keg cold. We rent taps and tubs — the tub holds ice and keeps the keg at serving temperature throughout your event.

Deposits apply to the keg itself and any rented equipment. All deposits are refunded when you return the keg and gear. Most domestic and many craft beers use a standard D-system coupler, but imported and some specialty beers require a different coupler type — worth confirming when you call.

If you’re using a hand pump (party tap) rather than CO2, plan to finish the keg the same day. Beer pushed with a hand pump picks up oxygen and goes flat and stale quickly — usually within 12 to 24 hours. CO2 systems keep beer fresh for weeks when properly refrigerated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need to keep a keg refrigerated before tapping it?

Yes. A warm keg going straight to a tap will foam excessively. Give it at least 24 hours cold — 38°F is ideal — before you plan to pour. If you’re picking it up day-of, pack it immediately in ice and give it as much time as possible to settle before tapping.

Can I return a keg for a deposit refund?

Yes. Deposits are refunded when you return the empty keg and any rented equipment. Hold onto your receipt — we’ll need it to process the return.

How long does a keg stay fresh?

With a CO2 system and proper refrigeration, most beers stay fresh for several weeks. With a hand pump, plan to finish it within 12 to 24 hours before it starts going flat.

Do you carry kegs of craft beer?

Yes — our craft keg selection is one of the more extensive in the area, and it changes regularly with new releases and seasonal availability. Check the keg list page for the current lineup.
